Richard Heller Gallery presents "Flourish", the second solo exhibition by Los Angeles film and video artist, Dane Picard, opening June 4th and running through July 2nd. Picard's composited HDV footage presents magicians performing, not magic tricks, but flourishes. In the world of magic, a flourish is a unique way of presenting, manipulating, and playing with everyday objects.
Here, flourish provides the conceptual framework for an engaging visual experience that questions our relationship to individuality, or personal style, versus homogenization and repetition. The closely cropped images of magicians' hands performing their feats of dexterity are striking in their portrayal of the everyday as an intense - even magical - experience. The exhibition features single channel video loops displayed on LCD monitors, hand held devices, and projection. This exhibition is made possible with the support of LaCie, Edirol, Goo Systems, Peerless Ind., Lumiere HD, Audio Authority, palmOne, Inc., Sharp, and Kinoma, Inc.
"Flourish" opens Saturday June 4th, from 3-5pm.
